Bouquets for Books
November 9 - 14, 2009

The return of "Bouquets for Books" coincides with a difficult time for area public libraries, which are grappling with steep cuts in state funding.

From Nov. 9 to 14, sister companies Royer's Flowers & Gifts and Stephenson's Flowers & Gifts will collect new children's books for public libraries in Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties.

In its first three years, Bouquets for Books has collected nearly 4,500 books for the libraries.

Greg Royer, president of family-owned Royer's, hopes the event for the first time will collect 2,000 or more books in one year.

"It's a lofty goal for these tough economic times," Royer said, "which is precisely when our libraries - with all of the books and other resources they provide at no cost - demonstrate their greatest value. I hope our customers can do what's within their means to donate lots and lots of new books to their local libraries."

Royer's and Stephenson's customers will receive a free bouquet for each new children's book they bring to any of the companies' 19 stores in the six counties.

Bouquets are limited to three per family per visit, while supplies last. Used books will not be accepted.
